9th Annual Joseph Chung Scholarship Ceremony
$285,000 in Scholarships Awarded to114 students for post-secondary studies
The ceremony was held on Saturday, January 23rd, 2021, at 10 am on live Zoom. Notable dignitaries and educators from across the province gathered virtually to present over 100 well-deserving students with a total of $285,000 in scholarships to pursue post-secondary education.
The Joseph Chung Scholarship – co-founded by Drs. Peter and Stephanie Chung – was established nine years ago in honour of their late son, who died unexpectedly at the age of 32. Joseph was on the autism spectrum and suffered from epilepsy. For nearly a decade, the couple has been presenting scholarships to students they feel will best honour Joseph’s legacy.
Joining the Chung family for this special event, the following guest speakers included The Honourable Stockwell Day; Consul General Byung-won Chung, Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Vancouver; Santa Ono, President & Vice-Chancellor of UBC; Dr. Michael Stevenson, Former President of SFU; Dr. Mark Husbands, President of Trinity Western University; and Port Moody-Coquitlam MP Nelly Shin.
